One of those instances...

Where Religion just PISSES me off...

DAVENPORT, Iowa (CNN) – A minister delivering the invocation at John McCain’s rally in Davenport, Iowa Saturday told the crowd non-Christian religions around the world were praying for Barack Obama to win the U.S. presidential election.

“There are millions of people around this world praying to their god—whether it’s Hindu, Buddha, Allah—that his opponent wins, for a variety of reasons. And Lord, I pray that you will guard your own reputation, because they’re going to think that their God is bigger than you, if that happens,” said Arnold Conrad, the former pastor of Grace Evangelical Free Church in Davenport.

The remark was made before McCain arrived at the rally but the Republican nominee's campaign quickly put out a statement distancing itself from the remarks.

“While we understand the important role that faith plays in informing the votes of Iowans, questions about the religious background of the candidates only serve to distract from the real questions in this race about Barack Obama's judgment, policies and readiness to lead as commander in chief,” said McCain campaign spokesperson Wendy Riemann.

This incident comes a day after a Minnesota voter asked Senator McCain if Barack Obama was an Arab at a town hall in Lakeville, Minnesota and just three days after Lehigh GOP County Chairman Bill Platt made a speech at a McCain rally in Pennsylvania where he refered to the Democrat nominee for president as Barack Hussein Obama.
And it's not so much that it's against Obama, but the narrow minded BULLS!!T behind it.  God forbid we let other people practice their religion.  GUESS WHAT!  For all you know those Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, hell even atheists are JUST AS RIGHT as you THINK you are.  The fact is there's NO WAY to prove you're right, I'm a Christian, but why the hell do you want to put down other religions, because frankly for all you know they could be right, and you could be the one going to hell.  So think about that before you begin to look down upon inferior religions.  Because I swear to god, if my pastors ever speak out against Obama in a service I'll strait up leave and find a new church.  Keep religion and politics separate, instill the values, but there are HUNDREDS of different beliefs, don't narrow yourselves down to one, and keep things acceptable for everyone.  Even though I am a "Christian" I'm pretty open to other beliefs, I've read a book by the Dali Llama, It's not like that's my excuse, but I'd sooner join in another religion than shut it out.

I'm glad I could vent that.

Also, I went to Homecoming tonight and had a good time, but now I need sleep.  I have work in the morning.

Kev-
You say that you would leave church if the pastors spoke out against Obama. However, I question whether you would be just as upset if the pastor had spoken out against McCain (and understand that there are black pastors throughout the South who are weekly urging their parishioners to vote for Obama), and I tend to think the answer is probably no. As such, it's not the mixing of religion and politics that you're pissed at, it's the mixing of religion with politics that you disagree with that you don't approve of. And that's where you need to be careful because you need to be just as tolerant of those who disagree with your political views as you do with those with whom you agree.

Dad

However, let me also say I understand your anger towards this specific pastor and the way he has used religion in an us vs. them manner. You need to understand that it's not the religion that's a problem just the induhviduals practicing it. Also understand that there are induhviduals in every religion, for instance their are some Muslims who want us dead because of our religion. Again, it's not the religio that's bad, it the way the induhviduals practice it.

Still loveya,
Dad
